Meet Dave Cummings
I am excited to officially announce my candidacy for U.S. Congress District 18. Our District stretches from Fort Pierce to the Northern tip of Wellington and from the Palm Beaches and the Treasure Coast to Lake Okeechobee.
As a Florida native who grew up here on the Treasure Coast, our district is my home here to this day. My family goes back several generations as pioneers of old Florida. I am a local entrepreneur and teacher. My wife is a first generation Colombian immigrant who has served this nation in the Dept. of Homeland Security and is now a successful businesswoman. She believes in LEGAL immigration and so do I. We partner in real estate and insurance ventures and have two wonderful children.
As a boy, I remember when the Saint Lucie Inlet was blue. I used to camp with friends on the hidden beaches of Hutchinson Island and the spoil islands off Fort Pierce Inlet and rise to catch a few waves at sunrise, or drop a line in the water. I snorkeled at Coral Cove, Bathtub Reef and Singer Island in search of lost treasures. I rode horses through the grazing cows on the Western side and watched the sun set over the tall pines until the darkness stirred up the evening wildlife. I still enjoy these things but now I have this amazing place to share with my children.

Why Run for Congress?
I am running for office because I feel Florida Congressional District 18 has never had proper representation. We still see the same issues that have plagued the area for decades such as toxic algae dumps, a lack of veteran’s care, and a lagging economy, just to name a few. But, I realized the only way for us to change the situation is to make one of “us” one of “them.”
Perhaps I was born in the wrong generation because I come from a lineage of people who believe their word is their bond, and a promise that is made is a promise that must be kept; even if that promise is no longer politically popular.
Our current representation in congress lives by another set of rules; one where promises are made, and then broken without a thought and military service is shamelessly used to get votes, rather than simply calling it one’s duty. I feel this dishonors people like me, and the countless others who live in the district who each served honorably and lost brothers and sisters along the way. We all have a story to tell, but it was our duty, plain and simple. Therefore, we seek nothing from it. Additionally, service to one’s country comes in MANY different callings. Heroes can be found among our first responders, in our classrooms, places of worship, and most importantly IN OUR VOTING BOOTHS!!!
Lastly, I am running for accountability. We cannot complain about being lied to, dismissed, and marginalized by the politicians and then vote that person into office again. This only encourages liars and oath breakers to remain in office and grow in numbers. As Americans, we must defend our Constitution and remove politicians who fail to keep their oaths. We must maintain the foundations that have preserved America for over 200 years and pass these onto future generations.
